Ennis has been unsuccessful in its bid to secure the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann for 2014. Expressing disappointment with the decision today (Saturday 26th January 2013) Dr.Vincent Cunnane, Chief Executive ofShannonDevelopment said:
“We are disappointed with the news that Ennis was unsuccessful in its bid to host the 2014 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. We had hoped to be celebrating today with the other members of the Ennis Steering Group who put together the bid, but unfortunately that is not to be. Ennis has a well deserved national and international reputation as a location in which to enjoy superb traditional Irish music, and one in which we will continue to take pride.”
Congratulating the winning bidders Dr. Cunnane said: “I would like to offer our congratulations toSligoon their win and wish them every success with the festival.”
Commending the huge team effort on the ground in Ennis, in putting together the town’s bid, Dr. Cunnane said: “I would like to pay tribute to the dedicated team of people and organisations who worked so hard in putting together the bid for Ennis to host the 2014 Fleadh. Among them; Comhaltas Ennis branch, Clare County Council, Ennis Town Council, Shannon Heritage, the business community, voluntary groups, cultural organisations, Gardaí and fire services. Shannon Development is delighted to have been part of this group. I am confident that the energy generated and synergies created between all the local organisations working together on the ground will be harnessed to secure other major projects in the future,” he concluded.
