News Release -

KTP Entrepreneurs have the cutting edge

There are celebrations in Kerry Technology Park this week for CEO Mike Fitzgerald and his team at leading mobile communications company Altobridge, who will compete in the finals of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in Dublin this Thursday (22nd October ’09).

Altobridge is the fourth company based at Kerry Technology Park (KTP) to be short-listed for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, proving that Kerry entrepreneurs continue to have the cutting edge.

Congratulating Altobridge on their success, Marie Lynch Development Manager of Shannon Development’s Kerry Technology Park said, “Over 110 entries from all over Ireland competed and for Altobridge to be in the finals is a major achievement. Mike and his team are proving once again that Kerry Entrepreneurs are punching above their weight. Mike is a born entrepreneur and Shannon Development’s relationship with him has grown and developed over the years. He was our first client when Kerry Technology Park first opened in 2001, with his hugely successful company Microcellular Systems which was subsequently bought by a US company.”

“Mike’s latest company Altobridge is now one of the largest companies at KTP employing 70 people. The company has built a highly specialised experienced team and has invested hugely in R&D over the past 5 years all of which has taken place here in KTP.  The availability of flexible office space allowed the company to grow organically within our on-site InnovationWorks facility, which is specifically designed to stimulate and support the creation of new knowledge-based enterprise. Easy access to resources and expertise at the Institute of Technology also proved to be a winning formula,” says Ms. Lynch.

“We are delighted that another one of our client companies has beaten tough competition to reach the final stage of the Awards and that Kerry Technology Park is continuing to attract a new generation of bright young entrepreneurs like Altobridge, one of a number of technology-intensive enterprises with their sights firmly set on the global marketplace,” says Ms. Lynch.

“This tremendous achievement is a testament to Mike’s entrepreneurial spirit and wonderful management capabilities. We hope that other clients in our 57 business and technology parks around the Shannon Region will be spurred on by this achievement and compete in this kind of high caliber awards. We wish Mike and his team every success in the Awards,” she concluded.

Three previous Kerry Technology Park companies have been named as finalists in the Emerging categories section of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards with Alan Scroope of FreeFlow 2006 winner, and 2005 winner Jerry Kennelly of the hugely successful Stockbyte Company, which was subsequently bought out by multinational Getty Images for $135m.
