A feast of family entertainment is planned at two top visitor attractions in Co. Clare this Easter. To mark the end of the annual Lenten ‘chocolate famine’, Shannon Heritage has arranged for the Easter bunny to give out hundreds of Easter Eggs at their Craggaunowen visitor attraction near Quin in Co. Clare on Easter Sunday 12th April. They are also organising a Cartoon Capers event at Bunratty Folk Park on Easter Monday 13th April ’09
The festivities will kick off from 1.00 pm on Sunday 12th April when the Easter bunny makes a special guest appearance at Craggaunowen 'The Living Past Experience' which tells the story of the arrival of the Celts in Ireland.
A family fun filled afternoon is planned with children being offered the opportunity to practise their bouncing skills for the Easter bunny on a bouncing castle. Among the festive events planned are, a puppet show featuring Easter chickens and bunnies, a magic show, traditional story telling, and traditional Irish music.
While walking around the park visitors can experience how the Celts lived, fought, farmed, and hunted. “Caomhan the Celt” will be there on the day to show visitors his Crannog (lake dwelling) where he lived and explain how the Celts hunted and cooked at the outdoor cooking site. Visitors will see the resident wild boar, the Iron Age Roadway and Ring fort. The Celts were renowned seafarers, St. Brendan the Navigator built a leather hulled boat and set sail in search of Hy-Brasil an island he had seen in a vision. Visitors can see a replica of the boat, built by Tim Severin, who sailed it to Greenland to prove that Brendan might have in fact discovered America as is claimed.
In an event dedicated to commemorating ‘cartoon capers’, favourite cartoon characters are winging their way to Bunratty Folk Park on Easter Monday 13th April. Life sized cartoon characters will include Mickey & Minnie, Snow White and a host of others. Children and adults are encouraged to come dressed as pirates or princesses to take part in an packed programme of events at a special Captain Cook Pirate corner, where games will include ‘blind walks’, ‘treasure hunts’, and a lesson in how to make a pirate sword from balloons.
A great day for all the family is planned, with a Mad Hatters tea party, story time with Snow White, face painters, stilt walker’s and jugglers, all on hand to create a magical atmosphere. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Bunratty Castle and Folk Park.
The Craggaunowen Easter event will take place on Easter Sunday, April 12th and the Bunratty Folk Park event will take place on Easter Monday 13th April. Both events will take place from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Family tickets available for both events and no reservations required. Normal admission rates will apply on the day for both venues, with no additional charge for the entertainment. For further information contact Shannon Heritage at 061 360788 - www.shannonheritage.com
