Over 6 million Austrian targeted as part of Limerick tourism promotion

Over 6 million Austrians will get read about the Limerick area as a tourist destination thanks to the recent visit (21st and 22nd March ’09) of a group of prestigious Austrian travel media who write for top publications all over Austria. The visit to the Shannon Region was organised by Shannon Development in conjunction with leading Austrian tour operator Blaguss Reisen.

“We were delighted to host this important group of travel media. This is the second year we have hosted such a group in conjunction with Blaguss. This visit gives us a unique opportunity to promote the summer charter series which will see direct flight later this year from Vienna to Shannon International Airport for the second year in a row,” says Oonagh Kelly, Shannon Development Tourism Marketing Executive – Europe.

Among the Austrian publications represented were; ‘Kronen Zeitung’ a daily national newspaper with a circulation of 2.9 million, and ‘Kleine Zeitung Graz’ newspaper with a circulation of over 820,000.

During their stay the group visited a number of local tourist attractions including King John’s Castle and Foynes Flying Boat Museum. They stayed in the Absolute Hotel and dined in Locke Bar, where they also enjoyed local traditional Irish music.
