Bubbling over with success as Ennis Company wins prestigious UK award

There were plenty of celebratory bubbles, just not the champagne kind, for husband and wife team Carrie-Anne and Chris Barry, Directors of Ennis based De Barra Publishing Company which has just won a prestigious national UK Award.

‘Project Bubbles’ is the name of De Barra’s innovative new pre-school resource which won the overall award in Practical Pre-School Awards. These awards were established nine years ago in the UK to highlight exceptional achievement in the area of resources for pre-school children. The win is a major achievement for De Barra Publishing which was up against stiff competition from long established UK players in this market.

Speaking from their new offices at the Information Age Park Ennis, Co. Clare (IAPE), Carrie-Anne Barry, Managing Director, De Barra Publishing said: “The Practical Pre-School Awards were our first overseas test to see how it would be received in the UK. We are really proud to find that we have been voted overall winner. This award is a fantastic boost to our profile in the UK and gives us an opportunity to go international with our pre-school education resource.”

Project Bubbles is a series of curriculum planning tools linked to music and interactive visual aids. The inspiration behind Project Bubbles was the need for a practical resource that enabled nursery staff to offer children stimulating, play-based learning experiences while at the same time meeting the demands of parents and government nursery inspectors. Initially launched in Ireland last year, Project Bubbles is currently used in over 650 Irish nursery and pre-school settings including 47 pre-schools in Co. Clare.

The Project Bubbles brand was launched last year in Ireland, and since then has been a major hit with childcare practitioners, teachers and parents. In order to grow their business the Company recently relocated to a new business base at the Information Age Park Ennis which is managed by Shannon Development.

This isn’t the first award for the Company who also won the ‘Best Export Potential’ category in the 2007 Shell Live-wire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the 2007 Clare Enterprise Award. Looking to the future Carrie-Anne says the Company will continue to specialise in the expanding pre-school educational category. It has an exciting pipeline of educational products including training resources for pre-school staff, language teaching tools, DVD learning resources and music resources.

Now that the project has been adapted for the UK system and with the Practical Pre-school accolade under its belt, indications are that this could spell the start of international expansion for the Company.
