Tourism boost with 100,000 additional bednights for Shannon Region

Shannon Development has just signed a tourism deal for the Shannon Region which could see an additional 100,000 bednights from Europe and the US over the next two years. The development company is supporting an initiative by Clare Resorts and international tourism company MAP Destinations who have joined forces to develop a new ‘Invite Ireland Programme’ a tourism web based initiative.

The aim of the ‘Invite Ireland Programme’ developed by MAP Destinations in conjunction with Clare Resorts is to convert the day visitors who pass through the Shannon Region into returning for a longer holiday especially in the shoulder months with the offer of good quality, keenly priced accommodation.

To achieve this they are targeting 100,000 visitors to the Region over the next two years through a number of different avenues - at top key visitor attractions; Tourist Information Offices; and an extensive ad campaign on Sky TV, encouraging visitors and potential visitors to sign up to the web site www.InviteIreland.com

As part of the Invite Ireland initiative accommodation providers around the Shannon Region are being offered an opportunity to upload their special accommodation offers on a new site www.inviteireland.com. These will then be marketed to potential tourists world-wide.

“The Invite Ireland Programme will be a valuable direct marketing tool for accommodation providers around the Region. The number of accommodation providers in the Shannon Region has grown over the past number of years. This growth, most particularly in the hotel sector, provides a challenge and this is one of the reasons we are delighted to support the Invite Ireland Programme. It will drive much needed tourism business to the Region in the off-peak tourist season and has tremendous potential to lengthen the season. It also complements Shannon Development’s own on-line tourism marketing strategy,” says John King, Heritage and Tourism Director, Shannon Development.

“All tourism accommodation providers throughout the Region are being invited to participate. All they have to do is log onto www.inviteireland.com and follow the on-line instructions,” says Emelyn Heaps, Managing Director, Clare Resort.
