Italian Invasion Expected
An Italian invasion is expected in Tipperary next year as a result of the recent visit of top Italian travel media to the area. A TV crew from Sky TV in Italy were among the group of top travel media who took part in the familiarisation tour of the Tipperary area. As a result, a one hour TV documentary on the Shannon Region including footage from North Tipperary will be broadcast to a nationwide audience in Italy.
The event was organised by Shannon Development, Tourism Ireland and Failte Ireland to promote the Ryanair access route from Treviso Italy to Shannon International Airport. An itinerary was draw up by Shannon Development and a total of ten travel media from a range of influential Italian publications including newspapers and travel magazines were brought to the North Tipperary area.
“As part of our new tourism marketing strategy Shannon Development has increased its focus on working with airlines to promote the Shannon Region in overseas locations that have direct air access to the Shannon Region. This is why we were delighted to work with Ryanair on promoting the Treviso, Italy route to Shannon Airport. During their visit the travel writers and broadcasters got to see visitor attractions in the North Tipperary area. They particularly enjoyed a fishing trip on Lough Derg and a traditional Irish music session in Dan Larkin’s pub in Garrykennedy. They were also enchanted with Nenagh Town. We were delighted with the response we got to the itinerary we planned for the group and all of the journalists have promised to write and broadcast glowing reports about us in Italy,” says Bernie Leonard, Shannon Development Tourism Officer, North Tipperary.
