New hi-tech tourism information facility goes on-line in Thurles

Visitors and locals in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, will be able to access high speed tourist information at their fingertips thanks to a new Tourist Information Kiosk which has just been launched by Shannon Development.

“We are delighted to have initiated the development of the new Tourist Information Kiosk which will help visitors access a range of tourist information and services around Ireland. The Kiosk will complement our existing manned Tourist Information Office in Lar na Páirce visitor centre in the town, and will also support our seasonal Tourist Information Office in Nenagh, and our Tourist Information Points in Roscrea, Borrisokane and Thurles, all of which are fully licensed by Shannon Development,” says Bernie Leonard, Shannon Development Tourism Officer for North Tipperary.

The new self service Kiosk is centrally located at the Source Arts Centre in the heart of Thurles and will be available from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm, in keeping with the extensive opening hours of the Arts Centre. The new high-tech touch screen kiosk will allow visitors access a wealth of tourist information in the locality and all over Ireland. From visitor attractions to accommodation, and from fine dining to shopping and entertainment, the information is just a click away.

“The location for the new Tourist Information Kiosk was important as we needed a venue where there was considerable visitor traffic and the Source Arts Centre provided the ideal location. In addition to its obvious use by overseas tourists, we believe the Kiosk will be an invaluable source of information for local people and we would encourage them to try it out for themselves,” said Ms. Leonard.

Funding for the Kiosk was sourced by Shannon Development through EU funding administered by the Mid West Regional Authority and matched funding from Shannon Development and North Tipp County Council. The project is also supported by Thurles Chamber of Commerce. The facility ahs been designed to provide maximum access for people with disability.
