Visitors to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are in for a treat on Wednesday 4th July next when a group of 60 young Danish gymnasts age between 12 and 20 years perform an exciting rhythmic gymnastics routine, and also demonstrate the art of traditional Danish dancing in full local costume.
This colourful and exciting event will take place at 1.00 pm on the lawns of Bunratty House, Bunratty Folk Park, and is included in the normal admission price. The group of gymnasts come from 6 different clubs in the Lolland area of Denmark and are being hosted by families in Sixmilebridge and Kilmurry under the umbrella of the Sixmilebridge Cultural Group led by Dolores O'Loughlin. Under the auspicious of the Sixmilebridge Cultural Group, young people from Denmark and Sixmilebridge have been involved in a cultural exchange programme since 1988.
“We are delighted to host this group of young people, it presents a wonderful opportunity for a cultural exchange, at the Folk Park they will learn about life in Ireland from medieval times to 19th century, and from them visitors to the Park will learn about Danish national dance traditions”, says John Ruddle, chief executive, Shannon Heritage.
While in Ireland the Group will also put on a workshop and performance in Sixmilebridge between 2pm and 4pm on Tuesday July 3rd at the GAA centre with a performance at 6.30 pm, and Ennis On Thursday July 5th. They will have time to relax and enjoy some top local visitor attractions including the Cliffs of Moher and Aillwee Caves in North Clare, and King Johns Castle in Limerick city.
