It’s now a short way to Tipperary via the web

New tourism website to attract additional visitors to Co. Tipperary

Eoin Kelly one of Tipperary hurling’s most prolific scorers was on hand this week to help launch a new dedicated tourism web site for Co. Tipperary.  The site has been developed by Fáilte Ireland and Shannon Development in association with tourism interests and local authorities from around the county, and the web address for new site is www.ireland.ie/tipperary

This is the first official tourism website to be developed in Ireland on a county basis by tourism authorities.  All of the other websites that have been developed by the national tourism authorities have been done on a regional basis and the next phase is the development of county based tourism websites. The Tipperary tourism website is the first of these county websites to be rolled out nationally and covers North Tipperary and South Tipperary.

Alan Kelly of Fáilte Ireland, a native of Portroe, Co. Tipperary, said that the site would help promote the unique selling points of County Tipperary as a tourism destination. “The new site is the first county site to be developed by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with Shannon Development and will have all the benefits of being part of the ‘Ireland.ie’ brand. It will also use Fáilte Ireland’s content management system and will benefit substantially from our online marketing programmes for 2007 and onwards,” he said.

The project was jointly funded by Fáilte Ireland and Shannon Development who worked closely with North Tipperary Tourism Company, South Tipperary Tourism Association,
North Tipperary County Council and local tourism trade providers. Web design company Tower Interactive was commissioned to design this highly informative and innovative website.

“Shannon Development, as the Regional Tourism organisation for the Shannon Region incorporating North Tipperary, is delighted to have been involved in the development of this county website. Tipperary is a very strong brand and this website is an important part of the visitor infrastructure and we look forward to developing it further,” says John Crowe, Shannon Development.

Key features of the site include detailed information on all aspects of Tipperary Tourism, including; accommodation listings, suggested visitor itineraries, an action packed activities guide, route planning aids for walkers, cycling, and driving route, and information on the range of superb festivals and events around the County. The site will have linkages to the national data bases ensuring maximum exposure. It will have a dedicated content management system to ensure that all data is kept up to date.

The tourism authorities see the site as a key aid in the provision of detailed information for visitors.  It will permit ongoing updating and interactivity and has been designed to allow the Tipperary tourism trade to submit additional data and new offers of interest to visitors on an ongoing basis.

“We would encourage the tourism trade to work with us to update the website and provide new information on a frequent basis and to provide specialist offers of interest to visitors,” said Mr. Crowe.
