Shannon Development has announced the appointment of Alice Morgan as their new Regional Development Manager for North Tipperary and South West Offaly. Alice will replace Tomas O’ Domhnaill who has retired from this post after a long and successful career with the Company.
Making the announcement Mr. Eugene Brennan, Director of Development and Marketing, Shannon Development said, “We are very fortunate to have such an experienced executive in this key role for Shannon Development. The Company is committed to making the Shannon Region The place in which to live, work, learn, and spend leisure time. To achieve this goal we are committed to assisting the more developed parts of the region to reach their full development potential, and helping the less developed areas of the region to thrive. Alice will link with existing partners in Tipperary and Offaly and will work on forming new partnerships which will help us deliver these goals”.
Ms. Morgan is a native of Mountrath Co. Laois and now lives in Ballina Co. Tipperary. After graduating with a PhD in Science from University College Cork she worked on a range of research and consultancy projects in University and private industry.
She began her career in Shannon Development in 1988 and has worked in a variety of areas in the company. Ms. Morgan worked in the Company’s industrial section and gained extensive knowledge of the industrial development sector generally from working to promote inward investment, and the indigenous industry development area of Shannon Development’s operation.
In 1992 Alice was appointed Manager of the Innovation Works incubator facility on the National Technological Park, a position which she held for ten years. During this time the Innovation Works supported many high potential start ups which are continuing to do well today.
Since 2001 Alice has been working with a team of people to develop infrastructure for businesses. This included developing supports for sectoral networks and innovation; networking with the third level colleges in the Region, supporting the spin-out of campus companies. Alice also managed Shannon Broadband, the company set up by Shannon Development and local authorities around the Region to ensure broadband connectivity. As a result the Limerick Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) was established. Shannon Broadband has facilitated 30 Group Broad Scheme submissions from the Region, bringing the Shannon Development closer to its goal of achieving blanket broadband coverage throughout the Shannon Region.
A central part of the Shannon Development’s mandate going forward will be a stronger focus on developing the less developed peripheries of the Shannon Region and maximising the potential of the more developed parts of the Region. In her new role Alice will be responsible for translating this mandate into activities which will help deliver economic development across North Tipperary and South West Offaly.
