Limerick tourism industry members were among 70 Shannon Region tourism industry representatives who accepted an invitation from Shannon Development recently (13th March 06) to find out about major E-marketing opportunities available to them. In a bid to support the tourism trade’s marketing efforts, the Shannon Region Tourism authority organised a special seminar at the Radisson Hotel, Limerick, to give Shannon region tourism product operators an opportunity to capitalise on a range of E-marketing initiatives.
“Shannon Development organised the Seminar to give the region’s tourism trade a competitive advantage in an increasingly competitive national and international tourism marketplace, by providing detailed information on two major E-marketing channels available to tourism product operators in this Region,” said John King, Director Heritage and Tourism Shannon Development.
The Seminar focused on domestic and overseas E-marketing opportunities. Following a review of the 2005 Shannon Region zone on the www.pigsback.com website which has over 200,000 members, Shannon Development has agreed a new campaign with Pigsback for 2006 which offers increased marketing benefits to trade participants. Paula Thomas, Director of Travel and Tourism, Pigsback, address the group and outlined the online marketing available to Shannon Region trade in 2006.
“One of the additional benefits to our participation in this year’s Pigsback campaign is increased presence on the site, with participants being marketed throughout pigsback.com exactly as other direct clients. This promotion is being heavily subsidised by Shannon Development which will keep costs to the Shannon Region Tourism trade to a minimum”, said Mr. King.
Shannon Development also organised for Michaela Douglas, Marketing Executive, www.ActivityBreaks.com the activity break provider with Ryanair, to highlight opportunities for the region’s tourism trade on their website. With approx 350, 000 people/unique visitors per month, and growing, visiting the Ryanair activity breaks site, this presents a huge opportunity to market and sell the Region’s superb tourism product base.
“Internationally more people than ever are booking holidays on-line. In the US over one third of all holiday booking last year were made on-line directly by the consumer. We were delighted with the high level of attendance at our Seminar and pleased that we could provide information to the tourism trade which will help them to increase their overall levels of business,” said Mr. King.
