Flying Visit for Ryanair Staff

Shannon Development, and its partners in Western Regions Tourism, have just completed a series of flying visits to the Regions for top Ryanair staff based in markets across Europe. The key Ryanair staffs were invited to the Regions to learn more about the Shannon and Galway Regions as top international leisure destinations.

The visits was organised over a 3 week period with the final group arriving on the weekend of the 7th April ’06.  Shannon Development designed a special itinerary to maximise their time in the region and to expose them to as much tourism product as possible. The Regional Tourism Authority, in association with the tourism trade, created a special ‘Freedom Pass’ which gave all visiting Ryanair staff free access to a range of visitor attractions and discount shopping opportunities around the Region.

During their stay in the Shannon Region the groups met with representative from the tourism trade including; Roisin Kelly, Shannon Airport Authority; Paddy Maher Atlantis Holiday Group, Co. Clare; representatives from the Clarion Hotel Limerick; Karen Flynn from Limerick Racecourse; Tom Shanahan, from the Radisson Hotel, Limerick; representatives from Meet Limerick Shannon; and representatives from Shannon Heritage and Shannon Development.

“This was an excellent opportunity to showcase the Shannon Region as a quality tourist destination. Among the Ryanair staff to visit the Region were the Marketing Managers for most of their European countries. To capitalise on this important group we tailored each itinerary to highlight a different aspect of what the Shannon Region has to offer.  For instance one of the groups enjoyed the buzz around Limerick city during the Rugby Heineken Cup quarter final, which helped us to highlight Limerick’s reputation as a sports city. This kind of visit is part of our ongoing marketing campaign. Over the coming year we will continue to target key influencers who can assist us in selling our tourism message”, says John King, Heritage and Tourism Director, Shannon Development.
