Shannon Development Welcomes Significant Investment in 6 Community Enterprise Centres in the Shannon Region

Shannon Development welcomed the announcement today (14th June 2006) by Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin TD, that Enterprise Ireland had approved grants totalling €1.6m for 6 Community Enterprise Centre projects in the Shannon Region. 25% of the projects approved nationally are located in the Shannon Region.

The Community Enterprise Centre projects approved were

Ferbane Business & Technology Park, South West Offaly €200,000
Kilcormac Development Association, South West Offaly €300,000
North Tipperary Food Enterprise Centre, Rearcross, North Tipperary €337,500
Kilkee Chamber of Commerce, Clare €198,000
Kantogher Development Group, Limerick €270,000
Southhill Development Cooperative Society, Limerick €300,000

A spokesperson for Shannon Development said the Company was delighted to have assisted the community groups in the development of their proposals, and to have piloted the projects through the national appraisal system. The spokesperson said the success of these projects is a vote of confidence in the future of enterprise at the community level, which is a key element in the regional economic development framework.
