Shannon Region gears up for major U.S. Tourism Promotion

Representatives from Shannon Development, the Shannon Region Tourism Industry, the Mayor of Clare, and local authorities in Co. Clare, are gearing up this week to promote the Shannon Region as a tourist destination at the 20th annual US Milwaukee Irish Fest which runs from 17th to 20th August ‘06.

The Festival is the world’s largest Irish cultural event. Over 100,000 visitors attend the Festival each year and many of these have Irish roots and are intent on visiting Ireland. The Festival was established 1986 as an event to celebrate and promote Irish heritage. It has evolved over the years and now the four-day festival promotes Irish culture through music, dance, cultural exhibits, drama, sports and history.

“This is a major event in the US calendar and is attended by top US Tour Operators who bring US tourists to Ireland, and has great potential to yield additional tourism business for the Shannon Region”, say John King, Director, Heritage and Tourism, Shannon Development.

“This event provides a fantastic opportunity to promote the Shannon Region as a tourist destination. Our job will be to woo US people who attend the Festival to come to our area. To do this we will be selling the Region’s wonderful variety of tourism products and attractions, our unique blend of Irish music, the breathtaking scenery, the endless array of activities, the ease of access through Shannon International Airport, and our warm welcome”, say John King, Director, Heritage and Tourism, Shannon Development.
