School holidays can be a stressful time for parents, children and teenagers. Finding something enjoyable for all the family to do can be a problem. Shannon Heritage, the Shannon Development tourism subsidiary may have a solution. They are organising a family fun day at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park on Sunday 27th August from 2.00pm until 5.30pm.
In addition to their normal daily programme of activities at the Folk Park, Shannon Heritage will have a range of fun activities for all age groups. Egg and spoon races, 3 legged races, sack races, tug of war, welly throwing, and puc fada (which involves hitting a hurling ball the farthest).
Competitions will be held in many of the activities throughout the afternoon with prizes for the winners. All age groups will be catered for from 4 years to adults. Younger children can enjoy cartoon time in the Folk Park barn, and a visit to the castle themed children’s playground in Park. And for those who still have energy to burn, a bouncy castle will also be on site for the afternoon. Young and old alike will be given an opportunity to learn set dancing with free classes to be held in the Folk Park during the afternoon.
“As the school holidays are drawing to a close we thought we would offer parents a last chance to enjoy an active family day out before the school year resumes. We have designed an action packed event with all age groups and plenty of fun in mind. The competition activities we have chosen are all traditional and fit in perfectly with the Folk Park which is a living working museum dedicated to recapturing life in rural Ireland over 100 years ago”, says John Ruddle, Chief Executive, Shannon Heritage.
No additional fee is required for the day as normal admission rates will apply for the event. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is open all year round. Adult admission is €13.00, children €6.50, and senior citizens €7.30. A family ticket admitting 2 adults and 2 children is €28.50; 2 adults and 4 children is €30.50; 2 adults and 6 children €31.50.
