Shannon Development Welcomes Tidy Town Success

Shannon Development, the regional tourism agency, warmly welcomed the announcement today (Monday 4th September 06) that the Shannon Region has won a range of awards in this year’s National Tidy Towns Competition including two National Awards (Birdhill, Co. Tipperary - Ireland's Tidiest Village, and Ennis, Co. Clare - Ireland's Tidiest Large Urban Centre, a new category introduced for towns with a population of over 15,000). “It is a fantastic achievement for the Shannon Region to win two out of five top awards, an even greater achievement when you know that over 700 communities nationwide were vying for these awards. The tremendous achievement is well deserved and a tribute to the continued selfless efforts of tidy town’s communities throughout the Shannon Region. Among this year’s awards are two gold medals, a silver medal and four bronze medals and three City Neighbourhoods Awards in the Special Category section. We are particularly delighted that our own Crossagalla Business Park & Enterprise Centre in Limerick was nominated and won the award for best business park in the Ireland. Shannon Development is proud of its long association with the National Tidy Towns Competition and is delighted to play its part in a Competition that has important benefits for every Community in the Shannon Region” said Kevin Thompstone, Chief Executive, Shannon Development.
