“An Asset to budding Entrepreneurs”

Over four hundred people with an interest in entrepreneurship have attended Shannon Development’s VentureStart programmes since they were introduced in 2001. This is a clear sign that the programme is considered a great asset to the business start-up community.

VentureStart 1 is focused on encouraging anyone who is thinking of setting up their own business to take the first step in that direction.

Shannon Development is running its annual VentureStart 1 programme over two evenings - Wednesday the 25th of October and Wednesday the 1st November in the Tipperary Technology Park (TTP), Racecourse Rd., Thurles.

Shannon Development’s Philip Ryan, programme co-ordinator, explains: “VentureStart 1 is Ireland’s most successful entrepreneurship programme. The programme is being run in all five of our regional locations – Kerry, Ennis, Birr, Limerick and Thurles. In the past five years, over 90 technology based start-up projects have received feasibility study support from Shannon Development to examine the viability of their ideas.”

“These projects have been assisted through our five InnovationWorks facilities throughout the Shannon region. InnovationWorks is a ‘one-stop-shop’ offering clients a tailored, integrated package of business development supports in a very hands-on way. This is the level of support new companies need.”

He added “Venture Start 1 is a very informative two-night programme. It’s purposely held at night so that people, who are already employed but have a definite yearning to set up their own bushiness, are given the opportunity to learn how to do so.

Topics in the VentureStart: 1 programme include – motivation, innovation – both igniting the idea and turning it into a profitable business and financing a bushiness from own resources and from the private and public sector sources.

Two entrepreneurs who have set up successful businesses – Kevin Cummins founder of Digital Cinema Ireland and Margaret Bourke founder of Netstar Software will be presenting to the attendees and sharing their experiences in getting their businesses off the ground. Also representatives from the Ulster Bank Business Banking Unit will be present to explain the finance options available from the private sector. While a Shannon Development representative will outline the state supports that are available for high potential firms.

“There has been a very positive response to this years programme but a number of places are still available.
