Shannon Development to promote stress free living at their National E-Towns Conference

Miltown Malbay E-Town – where the living is easy

With daily commute time to and from work eating up quality of life Shannon Development has come up with an initiative that will allow stressed out commuters find a Live/Work balance.

Shannon Development is holding a National E-Towns conference on 14th and 15th November at Burkes Armada Hotel, Spanish Point, Co. Clare.

“To sustain smaller towns, villages and communities, they need access to a range of employment opportunities. With changes in technology more and more people are able to run their business from home. This is why Shannon Development has developed a 21st century model called E-Towns for the development of smaller communities in the Shannon Region”, says Kevin Thompstone, chief executive, Shannon Development.

Miltown Malbay Co. Clare has been selected by Shannon Development as the demonstrator location for Ireland’s first E-Town. Work has now started on construction phase of the project which will see a €4 million investment in the development of an architecturally designed, mixed use, residential and business complex specifically designed to enable people to both live and work from their own home.

The Conference will look at the Miltown Malbay experience and the best way that Live/Work developments can help to disperse economic activity and job creation to small population centres, create new vibrant business clusters and offer an improved quality of life.

An expert panel of speakers has been assembled for the event including Tim Dwelly, Director and Founder of Live Work Network, the UK’s leading knowledge sharing service and consultancy on home based business and live/work property. Kevin Thompstone will address the conference to talk about the challenges and opportunities facing smaller communities in generating future economic development.

There will be case studies and break out sessions to explore different elements including ‘designing for Live/Work’ which will be addressed Murray Ó Laoire Architects. Dr. Brian Callanan from Shannon Development will discuss the impact E-Towns can have on rural development. Well known TV personality Duncan Stuart from the RTE series ‘About the House’ will speak at the Conference.

The Conference is particularly relevant to established service businesses, local authorities, members of city/county development boards, planners, developers, economic develop agencies, Leader groups, developers, architects, community development organisations and policy makers.
