Shannon Development announces appointment of new North Tipp / South Offaly Tourism Officer
Shannon Development has announced the appointment of Bernie Leonard as the company’s new Tourism Officer for North Tipperary and South Offaly. Ms. Leonard will be based in the Shannon Development Birr Technology Centre, and will also be working out of the Tipperary Technology Park in Thurles and Shannon Development’s Nenagh office. Ms. Leonard has been an employee of Shannon Development for the past 17 years and has extensive experience in the tourism sector.
Born in Kerry, she moved to Birr in the early 1980’s and began working for Shannon Development in 1989 in the Company’s Tourist Information Office in Birr. She then moved to the Company’s Regional Office in 1996. She is married to Ray with two children Lydia and Christopher .
As part of her academic qualifications she studied tourism through the Kerry Institute of Technology. She recently graduated from the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) with a BBS (Bachelor of Business Studies).
“I am delighted to take up the position of Tourism Officer for North Tipperary and South Offaly and look forward to working with everyone involved with tourism in both counties. An essential part of the role will be to ensure that Offaly and Tipperary maintain and grow their tourism market share, in addition to being a key ingredient in the Shannon Region Tourism portfolio,” said Ms. Leonard.
Welcoming the appointment Mr. Tomas O’ Domhnaill, Shannon Development, Regional Development Manager, North Tipperary and South Offaly said, “I am delighted that Bernie will be joining our team. She has had a long and successful career with Shannon Development to-date in a variety of roles. She has the experience, qualification and personally to make an excellent contribution to the development of tourism in Offaly and Tipperary.”
